SB221 is derived from ancient traditional Chinese formula composed of four commonly used Chinese herbs extracts. Animal studies demonstrated that it exhibited anti-hypertensive and LDL lowering effects via multiple mechanism of actions, especially, to protect and restore vascular endothelial functions from deterioration.

STPT has identified one marker for each plant herein as the basis for quality control and product specifications. All genotoxicity, acute, sub-acute and chronic toxicity, as well as drug-interaction studies supported that SB221 is a product with high safety profile.

Two Phase II double blind, placebo controlled clinical trials (N=83 and N=50) in mild to moderate hypertensive patients demonstrated SB221 significantly reduced the blood pressure in the mild manner with no significant adverse effect and no symptom of sexual dysfunctions. In addition, one of the clinical trials showed that SB221 reduced vascular inflammatory factors and serum LDL levels.
